Day 7
HAPPY ONE WHOLE SMOKE FREE WEEK FOR ME.
I feel like its my birthday I'm so excited about today.Even though its just one week, I feel like I accomplished a lot. I guess I did accomplish a lot tho, I mean I have never went more then a couple days before, little lone a week! so I feel great about that.
I'm going to leave this blog a little shorter then I'd like to, but a few of my non smoking friends are taking me out for dinner and a movie to celebrate! :)
Day 7 was a smoke free day for me, and all goals was met. $10 was added to the reward fund. total funds = $30
One thing I found when i first quit smoking, was that you had to keep yourself busy. So i decided to give blogging a try. I did choose my topic to be quitting smoking for two reasons. 1.I hate being a hypocrite so much that if I announced that I am going to stay quit smoking forever, Then the chances of me not giving up increases. 2.I just thought if some one reads this and was inspired to quit smoking them self's, then it would be well worth it.
Where do you fit in???

day 1 to day 6 update on not smoking
Well it's been 6 full days sense Ive had a cigarette!
So right now I'm working on day 7, and I'm really starting to realize that even though its been challenging, it's also not the end of the world, not even close!
Quitting smoking has been one of the hardest things I've attempted to do. Some days I honestly found myself feeling like I lost my best friend, or even one of my arms. I hate the feeling of looking for something that just isn't there. That's the bad thing about quitting smoking it's actually challenging, It's not as easy as just not doing something.
But most times it's actually not that bad. It's getting to the point that the smell of a smoke makes me sick, oh and ashtrays. I HATE the smell of a ashtray!
There is hope though! I have not gone more the a couple of day without smoking before, even though I've tried quitting quite a few times.
I've tried the patch and the gum, even thought i was getting my nicotine fix it was still very hard to fight the habit of smoking it self.
So last time i tried a inhaler made by Nicolette. in the theory it should replace the habit of smoking, but it didn't... it just have me a sore throat and none of the pleasures of smoking. So this time I decided to quit smoking cold turkey, and has been going pretty good for me. I'm still fighting the habit but the cravings are gone now, it only took a couple days for the nicotine to get completely out of my system.
Well now I'm gonna walk you over what the last couple of days was like.
Day 1
This was the hardest/easiest day of all of this.
It started off bad from the start. I woke up made my coffee and breakfast, and as soon as I was finished I felt the feeling of missing something, but I sucked it up and went right to work. Work was terrible, I mean really terrible. I'm a cook at a restaurant, and when it gets busy during the lunch and supper hours, it gets very stressful. Plus I work with a lot of smokers. It's not that they was encouraging me to smoke, it was the fact I knew at any point I can get a cigarette if I wanted to.
So after work was the easiest part, because I just went home and went to bed. No joke! I was sleeping before 8:00pm, and slept in till 9:00am the next morning.
Day 1 was a smoke free day for me.
Day 2
Compared to day 1, it was just as challenging but I had a good state of mind to do it. I woke up, and the first thing I told myself was today was gonna be a good smoke free day. I did the same things I done the day before. Work was still terrible, looking back now it probably would have been better to start on a weekend. After work thought, that was much better. I stopped to the store on the way home from work, and got a big bag of peanuts in the shell and rented a couple of movies.
Day 2 was a smoke free day for me.
Day 3
I slept in till almost 1, I never sleep in that late unless I had to many drinks the night before. After sitting around for a little bit I decided I need to keep busy. So I made a small list of friends and family that I knew didn't smoke cigarettes, and went on a mission to visit with them. That proved to be one of the best things I've done to help myself quit. Day 3 was still touchy for me, but I was able to talk about it finally with out driving my self insane. This was a good thing because I learned something very important. Every one has triggers. Little things that develop after having a habit for so long. For me after eating and coffee was my hardest. I'm on day 6 now and I still get a lost feeling after either. So what I did to solve this problem was cut coffee right out of the picture. quitting smoking was way more important to me then coffee. As for the after eating, it was pretty simple actually. I found that if I ate smaller portion meals, I don't have a craving. I've herd that eating 6 smaller meals compared to 3 big ones is healthy anyway, so I figured i mite even lose a couple extra pounds that be great too!
Day 3 was a smoke free day for me.
Day 4
Day 4 I woke up with a plan. It was Sunday and i decided plan for my Monday, so that I could take everything I learned and apply it to me life. Work is by far for me, the biggest trigger. it gets stressful and cigarettes are so accessible that its a miracle i haven't cheated or gave up. So what i decided to do was I put up a paper in the office saying "no one is to give Lew a smoke, no matter what he says!". I also decided to fallow my new eating routine at work, and work over my breaks. breaks was bad for me, I would sit in the crew room and just think and eat. So by working through my break would eliminate me sitting there thinking about smoking and wanting a smoke after I ate.
Day 4 was a smoke free day for me.
Day 5
First day back to work with my new plan. my morning was down to a science, I didn't miss smoking in the mornings at all. After I got rid of the coffees and big breakfasts, morning no longer bothered me. So how did my plan for work go? Great!. Working over my breaks just kept me focus on work. by focusing on work I found that my day flew by and got through it smoke free. Day 5 was the day that I realized quitting smoking was not only very achievable, but that I was going to do it this time and that nothing was gonna stop me.
I also realized there was defiantly a huge advantage to planing for all the triggers through out the day. After work I was feeling very good about myself, and felt very positive about quitting smoking. that's when I decided on the reward system. One of my friends told me that having a reward system is very encouraging way to quit smoking. So I based on a goal system, and if I fallowed all my goals I would take the money I would have spent on smoking, and put it away and save for something I really wanted. The goals was pretty easy to come up with, they was pretty much not smoking with my daily activities attached to it. so my goals was as fallows
Lew's Goals
1. No smoking
2.Eat 6 smaller meals
3.Focus on work
4.Keep myself busy after work
5.Be prepared to handle triggers
6. Keep a positive attitude
All these goals are for the most part pretty easy to fallow, so I really felt like I was setting myself up for successes instead of failures.
Day 5 was a smoke free day for me, and all goals was met. $10 was added to the reward fund. total funds = $10
Day 6
Now that mornings was taken care of and work was easy now I knew that i had one more area I needed to work on, After work.
This was clanging for me, because after work I would usually just go spend time with my friends. The problem with that is a lot of my friends smoke. One thing that happen pretty quick for me was hating the smell of smoke... I cant stand the smell of smoke, people who smell like smoke and being in a room with smoke and ashtrays. I'm really hoping this blog inspires a few of my friends to stop being idiots and quit (hint, hint). But I know as better then anyone, the only way you can quit is if you want to. If you don't have that then chances are you will not quit. My point to all this is that in my spare time I'm use to being out in around smokers. As much as I hope I can get use to that, right now its best for me to stay away from them in till I know I can handle it. So I figured that I would be spending a lot of time at home then. So then I decided on 2 things I was gonna do when I'm at home, Start a blog about quitting smoking, not dedicated to trying to get people to quit, but let people know that it is an achievable goal to quit smoking and that they don't have to be a slave to tobacco. number 2 was to invest in a Wii, and try out the Wii fit. Wii fit seems fun and healthy, seems like a win win to me. I'm gonna wait in till pay day for that one tho.
Day 6 was a smoke free day for me, and all goals was met. $10 was added to the reward fund. total funds = $20
So right now I'm working on day 7, and I'm really starting to realize that even though its been challenging, it's also not the end of the world, not even close!
